North: artist statement
The NES artist in residency sits at the north coast of Iceland in the remote village of Skagaströnd. The small community of about 400 inhabitants live between the Spákonufell mountain and the Húnaflói Bay. Although seemingly cut off from the outside world, they thrive in their surrounding environment and hold reverence to the natural elements. I attended the NES residency during the month of October where the colors have turned to golden yellows and brown, and the winds set in as a reminder of the coming winter. This series of images reflects the beauty of Skagaströnd and other wanderings during the fall season in Iceland.
